Old Route 66 - South of Sherman

The view north - towards Sherman This is the view towards the north from where this quarter-mile segment of Old 66 crosses the entrance to Carpenter Park, located just south of Sherman, next to The Rail Golf Course. If you squint just right, you can see the headlights of a car coming down Old Tipton School Road. This pavement used to be connected through, but a large section was obliterated by construction of the golf course. Old Tipton School Road now swings east to connect with Bypass 66 {Business Loop 55}.
The view south from location above This is the view south from the pictured location above. There is a steel cable across the entrance so you can't drive this stretch. We had no trouble walking all the way down to the Sangamon River.
... all that's left of the old bridge This is the end of the pavement. Barely visible is the footing for the old bridge. No traces of pavement are visible on the other side of the river.
The edge of the old pavement The bridge in the background is 'New 66' {Business Loop 55}. There might be some old pavement over there...
View from the river back north This is the view back north from the edge of the pavement at the river.
