South Springfield / Southern View
| This is looking at a remaining segment of the 'Curve' in South Springfield. I learned that this part of Springfield was once known as "Copp's Corner" thanks to an article in the Spring 1996 edition of that fine publication, The 66 News! This is looking north towards the intersection of 6th Street Road {Old 66} & Adlai Stevenson Drive {formerly Linn Street which became part of Bypass 66}. | |
| This is looking south down 6th Street Road. The building on the right is 'The Curve Inn' {formerly a restaurant, 'Comerford's Inn'}. It's a bar now. | |

After following 6th Street Road a ways south, we find this culvert. It looks like the road once was straighter although no pavement remnants are present. This view is to the northeast. Interstate 55 cut the pavement off beyond here. To the left but not really visible is 4 Lane 66/ Business Loop 55. |
| This is looking back northwest, showing the culvert and raised roadbed from the other side. 4 Lane 66 runs across the top of the picture indicated by the row of hotels. The Route 66 Drive-In was right in there until it was torn down for a commercial park. Farther up north from here is what is left of the SouthernView Motel, where the Abe Lincoln Motel used to be, and the new Cozy Dog location. | |
